Hole shares a mutual attraction with a colleague named Rakel, who is reluctant to take things further with him due to a custody nesob for her son, Oleg; unbeknownst to her and Hole, the matter is being orchestrated by Rakel’s superior, who is also infatuated with her. But perhaps the most compelling reason why Harry Hole has such a following is Nesbo’s devastating characterization of what exactly comprises a flawed hero.
After shooting a suspected assassin during the approach of the President’s convoy, Hole is promoted to inspector and investigates a crime involving a very expensive sniper rifle. Nesbo’s storyline is the best, very intriguing and leaves a few unanswered questions at the end which I’m sure are to be addressed in the next book.

I was looking for someone to connect to. The Redbreast moves at a good pace, and the story — in the past and present — is fairly gripping throughout. Ovo je zaista mnogo bolje od prve erdbreast. When Hole and his nezbo assistant, Halvorsen, attempt to arrest Olsen, they discovered that another police inspector, Tom Waaler, has apparently shot him in self defence.
In order to avoid an international scandal, his superiors promote him to a special investigations desk, where instead of laying down quietly, he starts tracking the links between skinhead gangs violence, the purchase of a very exensive sniper rifle and resentments inherited from past collaborations of Norwegians with the Nazis in WWII. Yet it puts him within a narrative structure that emphasises his incomplete or belated understanding.
Harry doesn’t have to worry too much about outside interference, as he’s allowed to do pretty much as he pleases; it’s only when someone perceives him as a romantic rival that he’s shunted off briefly to a posting in Sweden.
