Even though it’s only a two-star editu, I find myself holding onto it because I’m rather proud of my collection of retold fairy tales. Lovers of fairytales retold, reimagined, or twisted on it’s side. EAST is not extraordinarily sophisticated in writing style: The White Bear, as Rose comes to call him, is sweet and kind, hopeful that Rose will enjoy her stay at his castle.

While her adventurous spirit is one to get behind and her genuine loyalty to be admired, her flaws – her curiosity, her homesickness, her inability to follow directions – makes her all the more realistic. I hope I’ll carve out some time to review, but I have to say this is how a pattlu retelling should be in my opnion. I really felt that the relationship between Rose and the bear was not as well done as it could have been.

The secondary characters—even in brief appearances—make the most vivid impressions; Rose and Charles seem somewhat opaque. While pregnant with Rose, Eugenia is adamant that her unborn child will be an east-born, so much so that her very non-superstitious husband worries that she is tempting fate.

Rose is beloved by her brother Neddy, not to mention her father, and while her mother clearly cares for her, there is a distance between them that is written with poise.

But I liked the portrayal of the trolls and how you get into the mind of the Troll Queen and see some of her motivations better. Rabbit Ears Book Blog The Sloan Squad S I loved her fierce determination, her daring demeanor, and how she never gives up on these impossible tasks that keep coming her way.
