Even though it’s only a two-star editu, I find myself holding onto it because I’m rather proud of my collection of retold fairy tales. Lovers of fairytales retold, reimagined, or twisted on it’s side. EAST is not extraordinarily sophisticated in writing style: The White Bear, as Rose comes to call him, is sweet and kind, hopeful that Rose will enjoy her stay at his castle.
While her adventurous spirit is one to get behind and her genuine loyalty to be admired, her flaws – her curiosity, her homesickness, her inability to follow directions – makes her all the more realistic. I think when it’s time for Christmas, a lot of people are going to find this book in their stocking. The book was a failure in most respects – other than the prose on a sentence level, which as I said before, was actually pretty good.

You’d think, with all the plot-mandated things that I’ve mentioned before, that the plot, at least, would pattuo strong.
Parker School, Scripps College B. I loved this book, absolutely loved it, and I’m so glad I already have West downloaded from the library. Yet, despite this, Rose succeeds because she can sew, because she knows material. But first, in case you don’t know, “East of esst Sun, West of the Moon” is a wonderful fairy tale.
I hope I’ll carve out some time to review, but I have to say this is how a pattlu retelling should be in my opnion. I really felt that the relationship between Rose and the bear was not as well done as it could have been.
The secondary characters—even in brief appearances—make the most vivid impressions; Rose and Charles seem somewhat opaque. While pregnant with Rose, Eugenia is adamant that her unborn child will be an east-born, so much so that her very non-superstitious husband worries that she is tempting fate.

Rose has always been different. Like, ok, I get how rast mother is battshizz crazy about superstitions and birth direction. I enjoyed the alternating POV. Short chapters, larger print. Quite intriguing, isn’t it? John Green Box Set. This novel is a retelling of “East of the Sun and West of the Moon” which is probably one of the most underappreciated fairy tales out there.
Once the bear is rdith away by the Troll Queen, however, the second-half of this story only picks up. The author alternates voices in a convincing manner.

Rose is beloved by her brother Neddy, not to mention her father, and while her mother clearly cares for her, there is a distance between them that is written with poise.
But I liked the portrayal of the trolls and how you get into the mind of the Troll Queen and see some of her motivations better.
